Choson History
During the 18th century, Korean society had turned into a distinctively Confucian society. But throughout the history of Korea, in the ancient and medieval times, Confucianism cannot be seen in their tradition. Confucianism only became obvious in Choson Korea during 18th and 19th century (Rozman 84) where Confucianism can be seen at the curriculum in their educational establishments. The long adaptation of Confucianism in Korea is due to the fact that Confucian value systems of practices are always in contradiction with the Korean native way of life.
The most apparent factor that leads to the conficianization of Korean society is the Chinese influence. It can be observed that Korean literature uses Chinese ideographic characters where these symbols became the form of communication in Korea during its history. Because of this, Korea is continuously affected or influenced by Chinese traditions in terms of cultural and political viewpoint.
It can be assumed that adaptation of Confucianism in Korea is an extensive process. Confucianization in this country became very long and enduring because of the changing perceptions of its function (Rozman 85). For the period of Choson dynasty, commitment to Confucianism became very obvious because it enlightened the people during that time that this system of ethics is the reality where all people take nourishment.
